Haulin’ Crap Like a Boss — Real RV Life at Our Seasonal Campsite

Rig: Alliance RV Paradigm 310RL (Fifth Wheel) • Location: Near Salt Fork State Park, Ohio • Channel: Rolling with the Curves

RV life isn’t always sunsets and s’mores—sometimes it’s the nitty-gritty of emptying the black tank and hauling it to the dump station. In Episode 11, we show how we manage waste at our seasonal campsite using a Camco 36-Gallon Tote Tank towed behind a lawn tractor with a 3-way hitch. It’s down and dirty, good-bad-and-ugly… and honestly, part of the fun. 😄

We love our spot near Salt Fork State Park. Trading full hook-ups for a beautiful site means tote-tank runs are just part of the deal—and we’re okay with that.

Episode 11: Haulin’ Crap Like a Boss

Our Process (From the Episode Transcript)

  1. Prep the panel on our Paradigm 310RL, put on disposable nitrile gloves (we prefer tossing them vs. storing bulky rubber gloves).
  2. Treatment & water: We use Liquified RV Toilet Treatment and add ~5 gallons of water weekly after dumping to help break things down.
  3. Quick-connects + flow meter: Quick fittings everywhere and a P3 water flow meter so we know how much we’re backflushing.
  4. Secure hoses/cables: Those “super zip ties” (heavy-duty silicone cable ties) keep hoses neat and tangle-free.
  5. Fill the tote (Camco 36-gallon). Use the vent to let air out, take it slow, and monitor volume/weight.
  6. Tow to the dump station: Hitched to the lawn tractor with a 3-way hitch; navigate the curb carefully (weight matters!).
  7. Dump in stages if heavy. Rinse fittings, clean the area, and put everything back for the next camper.
  8. Glove removal tip: Pinch the palm, peel inside-out, and keep it poop-free. 🧼
  9. Double-dose treatment when it will sit all week, shut off water when leaving, and tuck gear away in the “fifth-wheel garage.”

Why We Do It This Way

It’s simple: we love our campsite and the park. Sacrificing full hookups for a beautiful spot means tote-tank runs are part of the weekly routine. With some planning (and the right tools), it’s easy, clean, and safe.
