The Lodge

Salt Fork Lodge opened in 1972 with that classic stone-and-timber vibe, huge windows, and cozy fireplaces. You’ll find 148 guest rooms, both indoor and outdoor pools, The Timbers restaurant, the Wildlife Lounge, and a gift shop (don’t miss the caramel corn!).

Cabins & The Kennedy Stone House

The cabins are nostalgia central for us—childhood summer weeks of boating, hiking, and ghost stories. The historic 1865 Kennedy Stone House has been restored and is a great stop for local history.

Campground Essentials

Sites are arranged in loops (A, B, C, etc.) with a check-in store, playgrounds, trails, and both electric and full-hookup options. There are about 200 sites that accommodate tents to big rigs. In winter we like to snowshoe the A loop when other sections are closed to vehicles.

Horseman’s Camp & Trails

Equestrians get their own camping area and miles of horse trails. Hikers can access multiple trailheads from campground lots or bathhouses.

Marinas, Boat & Kayak Launches

Salt Fork has two full-service marinas—Salt Fork Marina and Sugar Tree—with fuel and slips. Beyond the ramps, there are easy-in spots all around the lake for kayaks and canoes.

The Beach (and Dog Park!)

After the back-to-school rush, we practically had the beach to ourselves—perfect for a certain water-loving pup.

Bigfoot Country

Yes, Salt Fork leans into its bigfoot lore—there are even places nicknamed Bigfoot Ridge. We couldn’t resist a photo-op at the new Eco-Discovery Center.

Archery Range & Scenic Drives

There’s an archery range for amateurs and enthusiasts alike, plus several photogenic bridge crossings that glow at sunset.

Stars in Motion

We wrapped the day with some stargazing and time-lapse. Dark skies + wide lenses = magic.

What’s Next

In Part 2, we visit the brand-new Eco-Discovery Center and chat with the park naturalist about the building and exhibits. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and ring the bell on our YouTube channel to catch it when it drops.
