Have you ever taken a bucket-list trip… only to have the views completely disappear?
That was our reality during our first visit to Glacier National Park in 2020. Wildfire smoke filled the skies, erased the iconic mountain views, and left us wondering if we’d ever truly experience Glacier the way it was meant to be seen.
Four years later, we returned — and Glacier delivered.
Our Glacier National Park Story
We’re Matt and Debi from Rolling with the Curves, part-time RVers and proud Alliance RV owners. Like many of you, we squeeze our adventures into weekends, seasons, and windows between work and real life.
Glacier National Park has always been one of those places that lived in our RV daydreams. Towering peaks, turquoise lakes, dramatic roads, and some of the most breathtaking hiking in the country.
In 2020, California wildfires blanketed much of the western U.S. with smoke, and Glacier was no exception. While we were grateful to still be traveling safely, the haze muted the landscapes and reminded us how powerful — and devastating — wildfire seasons can be.
We want to be clear: this story isn’t about making light of those fires or their impact. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the losses and destruction during that season.
Smoke to Redemption — Four Years Later
Fast forward to 2024.
This time, Glacier welcomed us with crystal-clear skies, jaw-dropping scenery, and the kind of cinematic moments that make you stop in your tracks. From iconic mountain vistas to peaceful roadside pull-offs and unforgettable hikes, this trip felt like the redemption arc we didn’t know we needed.
It was proof that sometimes, revisiting a place can be even more powerful than the first time — especially when the timing is right.
